The Practice Myth: Why Studying Alone Won’t Make You Fluent

8 February 20264 min read

Let us say something heretical for a language company: studying alone will not make you fluent. It’s a myth propped up by tidy vocab lists and the comfortable illusion of progress.

Fluency is a social skill. It lives in the moment you’re mid-sentence, the other person is talking, and you have to keep up. No textbook chapter prepares you for that small, brilliant panic, only practice with humans does.

That doesn’t mean study is useless. It means study is the ingredient, not the meal. Twenty minutes of real conversation a week, plus targeted feedback on your actual mistakes, will beat five hours of solo revision every time.

So: speak early, speak badly, and let someone kind but honest correct you. That’s the whole method. It’s also, quietly, how our training sessions are built, real practice, real feedback, real progress.

– fin. Questions? Just ask.

Our training sessions turn posts like this into practical skills, clearer emails, smoother meetings, fewer cultural awkward moments.
